Meaning and History

I’m confused; what exactly is a Polly Pocket?
The iconic toy manufacturer Mattel is known for their original line of children’s toys called Polly Pocket. For a time, Bluebird Toys was responsible for production of the line. Such replicas are currently desirable as collectibles. Dolls, playsets, play furniture, and little extras make up the bulk of the line’s offerings.
1989 – 1998

In 1983, Chris Wiggs created the Polly Pocket collection. Bluebird Toys, which acquired the rights to the series in 1989, was the original manufacturer. In 1998, Mattel bought the company and its trademark. The previous logo was oval.
1998 – 2003

1998 brought a more consistent Polly Pocket logo. Design modified, text and oval frame remained. A girl’s face, centred on the merchandise, an exclamation point, and a flower were added to the interior. The font has been updated to a lighter, cartoonier style. All of the letters were adorned with curls and protrusions. Pink was the most prominent color, indicating the toy theme. As an added bonus, the picture was diluted for the better by the presence of yellow and white.
2003 – 2006

A new and improved logo debuted in 2003. Smooth oval with Polly Pocket writing. The flower-shaped exclamation point with no dot in its centre and the primary colours remained unchanged. They took the female out of the design. The primary alteration was in the sentence structure.
The word “Polly” filled almost the whole width of the sign, and it was set in a large, whimsical scrolling font. The Pocket logo was well-drawn and barely noticeable. The theme selected exemplified friendliness, carefree spirit, warmth, and optimism.
2006 – 2008

2008 – 2012

2012 – 2015

The toy line’s current logo is a rectangle with the name inside. The logo has some high points and the inscription some low points, or highlights and shadows. The result was a very contemporary and realistic looking picture. There was a lot of pink, purple, white, and green to emphasise the toy theme.
2018 – 2021

The company opted to rename yet again in 2018. 2006’s logo was better. The inscription was on two levels without frames. A soft heart replaced a flower. In this iteration, the delicate letters in handwriting seem to have a faint radiance. The selected layout reflected the series’ signature elements of exclusivity, originality, and security.
