The fact that Roxy is the women’s counterpart to the Quiksilver brand is reflected in the design of the Roxy logo. On the one hand, there is an unmistakable connection with Quiksilver, while on the other, the logotype has an undeniable hint of femininity.
The significance and the past
The year 1990 marked the beginning of the Roxy brand’s rich history. The line was severely impacted by the recession that hit the surf business in 1991, and as a result, it was quite probable that it would be discontinued entirely. On the other hand, Bob McKnight and Danny Kwock were the ones who brought the line back to life in 1992. There are two distinct reasons that led to the selection of the name for the product line. When I first heard the name “Roxy,” I immediately thought of a punk band or a club. In addition to this, both the creator of Quicksilver, Alan Green, and the current Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Bob McKnight, have a daughter named Roxy.
What exactly is Roxy?
Quiksilver, which was established in 1990, is the company that created the Roxy brand of women’s clothes. The business sells apparel that is made for those that live active lives and participate in extreme sports. The first line of merchandise that was ever produced by the brand was a swimwear and surfwear collection. Today, Roxy caters to a broad variety of sporting activities and has its clothing sold in a variety of countries across the world.
Quiksilver emblem
It is vital to explain the logotype that is used by Roxy’s sibling brand, Quiksilver, in order to have an understanding of the Roxy logo. Two elements combine to form the Quiksilver logo: a wave breaking on the shore and a mountain topped with snow. The time-honored printing method used in Japan that is known as woodblock printing served as the source of creativity for this illustration. The emblem is crafted in a manner that is reminiscent of a well-known woodcut that depicts a typhoon wave and Mount Fuji.
The image of the towering mountain is often used to denote superiority and genuineness. Additionally, the wave is meant to symbolise surfing, and the mountain is meant to represent snowboarding; these are the two sports in which Quiksilver items are used most often.
Emblem
The Roxy logo may, at first sight, seem to be nothing more than a stylised representation of a heart. However, if you look at it more closely, you’ll see that it’s not quite as easy as it seems at first glance. Two different variations of the Quiksilver logo, one of which is a regular version and the other of which is a mirrored version, are placed next to one another to form the shape of a heart. The unconventional strategy is successful in establishing a connection with Roxy’s parent company while simultaneously generating a one-of-a-kind and romantic image that is attractive to female consumers.
Font
The font that is selected for the Roxy logo is one that is friendly and uncomplicated. All of the letters are written in lowercase and italic style. The wordmark does not have a very distinctive appearance; yet, it does have a distinguishing characteristic, which is that the gap between the letters is considerably greater than is typical. The alternative form of the logo uses a sans-serif typeface that is capitalised throughout but does not use italics.
Color
The colour magenta, which is used for the insignia, helps to provide a cheery and girly atmosphere. In comparison to it, the grey wordmark may not seem to be very apparent; yet, it is classy and sophisticated. You also have the option of presenting the logo in a monochromatic format. In another variation of the design, the blue insignia is shown against a white backdrop. This is also an option.
